Warming comes to the team after 44 seasons of coaching at eight universities
PAPILLION, Neb. (July 29, 2022) – Union Omaha announced today that Bob Warming will be joining the team as a Technical Advisor for the remainder of the 2022 season. Warming is reunited with Union Omaha head coach Jay Mims after the two coached together at Creighton University for several years.
Warming began coaching in 1976 at Transylvania University in Kentucky. Over the years, his illustrious career spanned over many universities including Charlotte, Old Dominion, Saint Louis, Penn State, and Creighton. He spent 12 years in total at the helm of the Bluejays and led the team to 11 NCAA tournament appearances. He is one of only two coaches in NCAA Division I history to take two different schools to the College Cup.
In 2018, Mims passed the head coaching baton over to Warming at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where Warming spent 4 years before retiring in 2022. He led the Mavericks to their first NCAA tournament win in 2020 and is the seventh all-time winningest coach in Division I soccer.
“Coach Warming is an incredible coach but an even better person,” said Union Omaha Head Coach Jay Mims. “Having his knowledge and experience around the team is such a great resource to have. I look forward to spending time with him and having so much fun again on and off the field.”
“It has been 12 years since Jay and I worked together,” said Bob Warming. “In that time, he has become an elite coach. Elite in the big things. Elite in the bits and pieces. He and Bobby are great to be around, and the players make all of us in Omaha proud. So grateful for this opportunity. We are going to have some fun.”
The 2022 League One Championship defending campaign will continue at Werner Park on July 30 vs. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. Single-match tickets and undated voucher packs for the 2022 season are currently available via UnionOmaha.com or the Werner Park Ticket Office by calling 402-738-5100.
