Grammy-Winning Artist Boosting Nebraska’s Soccer Legacy
PAPILLION, Nebr. (September 29, 2023) – Union Omaha, the only professional soccer team in Nebraska and winner of the 2021 USL League One championship, is thrilled to announce a new addition to its ownership group. Nick Hexum, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for multi-platinum alternative rock band 311, has officially taken an ownership position in the club.
This exciting development coincides with Hexum’s homecoming to Omaha, where he and the band are set to be honored by the Omaha Press Club as the next Face on the Barroom Floor.
“We thought it would be impactful to announce this news on the same day Nick was being honored at the Press Club,” said Gary Green, CEO and Principal of Union Omaha. “The Faces on the Barroom Floor honors newsmakers who have impacted the community and we look forward to seeing the impact his involvement with Union Omaha has as well.”
September 28th will be the first time in Press Club history that a band will be honored as a Face on the Barrom Floor. 311 is one of the most famous bands to come out of Omaha and, according to Roger Humphries, chair of the Face on the Barroom Floor committee, “they have been trying to get 311 on the barroom floor for over a decade.”
Hexum, known for his musical talent and love for Omaha, expressed his excitement about joining Union Omaha’s ownership group, stating “I love Omaha’s culture and I love soccer culture. After getting to know Gary I have found his passion to be unbelievable. Union Omaha’s motto is One Means All, symbolizing that everyone in the community who supports the club is a valued member, and to be part of that is amazing.” Hexum has also agreed to sing the National Anthem at a future Union Omaha match.
This announcement comes during an exceptional season for Union Omaha, which currently boasts an impressive 10-game winning streak. The team is set to hit the road again on Friday, September 29th for a highly anticipated top-of-the-table match-up with North Carolina FC, a match with significant implications in the race for the regular season title. Having clinched a fourth playoff berth in the franchise’s fourth season, the Owls will be back at home for the final time this regular season on Wednesday, October 4 to take on Charlotte Independence at 6:30 pm for Fan Appreciation Night.
