18-year-old defender signs new multi-year contract with club beginning in 2024
PAPILLION, Neb. (August 13, 2023) – Union Omaha announced today defender Anderson Holt has signed his first professional contract with the club, pending league and federation approval. Holt is the second Omaha academy signing to turn pro after Yoskar Edu Galvan in 2022.
Holt made his professional debut with Union Omaha against Central Valley Fuego FC on July 1. The San Diego native came to Omaha after helping his Queensboro FC II team make the finals of the 2022 USL Academy Cup. At age 15, he left the United States to play overseas as a part of the TalentProjekt in Germany, which provides high-level training for American youth players and gives them the opportunity to go head-to-head against top Bundesliga academies.
“Anderson has done really well since joining us in pre-season, and his progress has been impressive over the course of the year,” Union Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato said. “If he continues to work hard at improving his game, he can have a bright future and help the club continue to compete for titles over the next few years. I’m excited to see what the future holds for him and look forward to helping him along the way as he takes his first steps as a professional.”
“Anderson signed his academy contract with us knowing that it was not a guarantee of anything other than an opportunity,” Union Omaha General Manager Peter Marlette said. “He has worked hard, kept a positive attitude and done everything asked of him. In the minutes he’s earned so far this season, he’s proven that he can play at this level and hopefully someday beyond it. Anderson deserves to be a professional, and I’m thrilled he’s fulfilled that dream. I’m confident he will continue to work and fulfill future dreams.”
“It is an amazing feeling to get to sign my first professional contract here in Omaha,” Holt said. “The entire club has given me an incredible introduction to the professional world, and I am excited to start this new chapter in my journey with Union Omaha.”
The 2023 League One campaign will continue with a visit to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC Saturday, September 16. The next home match at Werner Park will be Saturday, September 23 vs. Central Valley Fuego FC for Oktoberfest. Single-match tickets for the 2023 season are currently available via UnionOmaha.com or through the Werner Park Ticket Office by calling 402-738-5100.
