Union Omaha will once again need help to take down their fourth Players’ Shield, after their first league home loss all year at the hands of Fort Wayne. Wins against Westchester and then Madison will at least force Charlotte Independence to win out as well, so all the Owls can do is beat the teams in front of them.
Of course, the team in front of them now is one of the hottest teams in the league. While Westchester SC are eliminated from playoff contention, they’ve won four of their last five, with the only “blemish” a scoreless draw against One Knoxville SC. Nothing’s ever easy in this league, and Union Omaha’s run-in will prove it.
Here are three more things to pay attention to going into the regular season’s penultimate fixture:
- Much attention will be paid to Westchester’s Golden Boot frontrunner Conor McGlynn, who’s tied atop the ranks with his 15 goals. However, that total wouldn’t be possible without the excellent playmaking duo of Kyle Evans and Dean Guezen, who have combined for 84 chances created in 2026.
- The Owls could see a couple new records this weekend with a good performance. A win would secure a USL League One record 20th regular season win on the year, while a Sergio Ors Navarro goal would make him the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
- Interestingly, Ors Navarro is tied with two different players for that mark, depending on if it’s in all competitions (Steevan Dos Santos, 25) or just in USL League One play (Noe Meza, 21).
- Allen Gavilanes made his return to the pitch last weekend against Fort Wayne after a short injury layoff. He’ll look to play provider in this crucial match, and his next assist will be a nice milestone too: he’s sitting on 19 in USL League One play.
Union Omaha at Westchester SC kicks off at 6:00pm CT on Saturday, October 17th. You can watch the match on ESPN+, as well as on the Golden Spike Network locally.
