PAPILLION, Neb. – Two Union Omaha executives were awarded USL Starting XI honors for their work during the 2021 season. The league announced the awards during the annual Winter Summit, located this year in Tampa, Florida. The USL Starting XI is designed to award top level executives in 11 different categories.
President Martie Cordaro was awarded the Leadership Award, which is presented to the team president who demonstrated excellent leadership during the 2021 season.
“Being a community leader and making an impact locally through pro soccer is a daily focus for all at Union Omaha,” said Cordaro. “This recognition is evidence of the culture that we are building throughout our organization and how we showcase pro soccer in the metro. I am humbled to accept this award on behalf of our ownership, front office, game day employees, players and coaching staff who work every day to live out our ‘One Means All’ motto.”
Justin Rolfes, director of marketing and communications, was awarded the Digital Award for his team’s work with the team website, app, and social media presence.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the USL for this award,” said Rolfes. “It is a testament to the work that our team has put in, making Werner Park a true home pitch advantage and helping grow the Union Omaha supporter base.”
Union Omaha was also honored with three runner-up awards for the USL Starting XI. General Manager Peter Marlette was the runner up for the Business Excellence Award; Retail Operations Manager Mitch Cunningham was runner-up for the Consumer Products Award; and Union Omaha was runner-up for the Community Relations Award for all its work in the local community.
