UNION OMAHA PLAYER ILLAL OSUMANU RETURNS TO TEAM ACTIVITIES
PAPILLION, Neb. (August 25, 2021) – Illal Osumanu has rejoined the team for all activities and could feature in a match in the near future. Illal was the starting defender for the first five games of the 2021 season and was chosen to the United Soccer League (USL) League One Team of the Week for week 5.
Union Omaha has the number one ranked defense in USL and is currently ranked in second place in USL’s League One standings. The team has only lost one match since May 26th, Osumanu’s last time playing. He was never removed from the team but was removed from team activities due to legal proceedings.
“After reviewing the current situation we have determined that we are able to move forward with him as an active player,” said Gary Green, Alliance Sports CEO and Managing Partner. “The team and staff look forward to having him back on the pitch and in all team activities.”
Union Omaha is halfway through the 2021 season and has led the league for the majority of the time. The team has had many different players on USL’s Team of the Week and recently signed three new players to the roster; a 17-year-old midfielder from Lexington, Nebraska, an 18-year-old forward from Sioux City, Iowa and a forward from the Puerto Rican National Team.
“It's been exciting to watch this team accomplish so much in just our second season, especially after such an incredible first year,” said Peter Marlette, General Manager of Union Omaha. “We're looking forward to the rest of the season.”
